The Manasquan Tourism Commission will host its annual Fun Time Kayak/Paddleboard/Canoe Race this Saturday, July 18, at Stockton Lake.

The races, presented by the tourism commission and sponsored by Manasquan Bank, have become a staple summertime event in the borough, drawing dozens of participants from near and far each year.

“This is a great family event and we encourage everyone to come out for some friendly competition,” tourism commission chair Ray Summers said.

This year, registration will begin at Axel B. Carlson Park at 9 a.m. Races will begin at 10 a.m.

Race participants navigate an oval course in Stockton Lake that is about one mile long. Races are open to anyone 18 and older, except for the family division, where one member of the team must be between ages 7 and 17.

Kayaks and paddleboards will be available to rent on the day of the races (or participants can bring their own), but participants must bring their own canoes to the races.

Canoes have a $30 entry fee. Double kayaks have a $30 fee, and single kayaks and paddleboards carry a $15 fee.

Participants must wear life jackets and protective footwear.

Pre-race entrants will receive a race day T-shirt. Trophies are awarded in each category, and all children receive a participation medal.

“We hope to see all our regulars, and plenty of new faces, on the lake this Saturday,” Summers said.

In case of rain, the races will be held on Sunday, July 19. Any changes will be announced via the tourism commission’s website, squantourism.com, Twitter (@squantourism) and Facebook page.

We hope to see everyone there!

Congrats to all our 2014 winners!
